EAT AND GREET: Slippery Rock University President Cheryl Norton hosted a potluck lunch last Thursday for staff. Employees brought in an assortment of dishes and desserts for the picnic on the lawn in front of North Hall.


SRU plans weeklong inaugural program

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - A week's worth of interactive events beginning Sept. 22 will be part of Slippery Rock University's inauguration of Cheryl Norton as the University's 16th president.

The formal inauguration and investiture ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 28, on the campus Quad. (read more)

SRU offers new autism certificate

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University graduate education majors, and those already working in education, can now expand their skills in working with those on the autism spectrum thorough a newly approved special endorsement certification program.

"We saw a huge need to educate teacher educators in the area of autism, and we saw the number of children being diagnosed with various forms of autism is increasing daily so we applied to the Pennsylvania Department of Education to begin offering an autism endorsement as part of the options for those master's degree students majoring in education at SRU," said Joseph Merhaut, associate professor of special education at SRU and department chair. Volunteers WOW newly arriving students

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - More than 600 volunteers are lending a hand to WOW new students as they move in on campus for fall semester.

This year's incoming 1,500 new students will arrive Aug. 23-24 followed by upper class students later in that weekend. (read more)


Upcoming events:

  • SRU Parking Decals for 2012-13 must be in place by Sept. 1 to avoid tickets. Decals may be ordered online one day in advance of pick up at: https://slipperyrock.t2hosted.com/cmn/index.aspx.
  • The SRU Parking Office is now located at 102 University Union. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Old permits should be removed and replaced by the new decal at the SA1 line on the driver's side windshield, but below any tint.
  • Those living in Slippery Rock Borough, including SRU students in off-campus housing are advised that the annual bulk item pick up of old furniture, appliances, car tires, etc., will be Aug. 31. Items should be placed curbside before 8 a.m.
