SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Anyone with children ages 3-5 is invited to enroll them in Slippery Rock University's free on-campus movement activities "Moving Concepts," program, which is part of a physical education course taught by Marybeth Miller, associate professor of physical education.
Classes will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursdays in Morrow Field House beginning Feb. 3.
"This is an inclusive program designed for preschool-age children with and without disabilities. It is rich in developmentally appropriate movement experiences centered on themes of body awareness, space awareness, effort, relationship to others, and Character Counts program themes emphasizing elements of cooperation intertwined with fundamental motor skills," Miller said.
The program is aligned with the Pennsylvania Department of Education Early Learning Standards for Pre-Kindergarten.
Classes will focus on child-centered movement activities important to a young child's development, Miller said.
The Moving Concepts program is an on-campus, service-learning educational movement program anchored to the department's "Movement Education" class.
Teacher candidates in physical education, special education, early childhood education, and elementary education enrolled in the course will provide safe instruction that promotes social skills among children, Miller said.

Children attending the SRU Child Care Center on Thursday morning have been provided information by the program director.
