SRU's Forbes earns patent
for indigenous medicine work

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Sometimes there is just enough truth in folklore and home remedies on which a serious scientist can base a cure. Such is the case for Wayne Forbes, assistant professor of biology at Slippery Rock University, who has been awarded a U.S. Patent for his isolation of a compound that kills an often-fatal intestinal parasitic roundworm called "threadworm."

This parasite, formally known as Strongyloides stercoralis, is commonly found throughout the tropics. Read More

President's Award for Service

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Keeping track of the academic credits, individual courses undertaken, grades earned, credits added, home addresses, campus addresses, phone numbers - both cell and landline - of 8,648 current Slippery Rock University students, and the same information for more than 61,000 alumni is the responsibility of this year's recipient of the President's Award for Outstanding Service - Eliott Baker.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Jesse Pattison's path toward reducing the carbon footprint began in his boyhood. Pattison's understanding of solar energy is being illuminated through a student-faculty research project at SRU. He is building a solar panel he hopes will provide a new method of capturing solar energy, with potential application on campus. While most solar panels capture direct sunlight on roofs, Pattison and other SRU students are experimenting with window units. Read More
