SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University athletic department will sponsor its third annual National Women and Girls in Sports Day event Saturday in Morrow Field House.
The event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is designed to afford girls ages 5-12 the opportunity to learn and participate in a variety of sports activities under the direction of SRU student-athletes and coaches. The event is free and includes lunch.
Participants will have the opportunity to play basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. They will also receive free admission to The Rock basketball doubleheader against Edinboro University. The women's game is at 1 p.m. The SRU men play Edinboro at 3 p.m.
This year's National Women and Girls in Sports Day event coincides with SRU's annual "Pink Zone" event to enhance breast cancer awareness. Participants are asked to wear pink to the game.
Free pizza will be served at noon, but participants may also bring their own lunches or purchase food at the concession stand.
Registration is limited to the first 80.
