SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's Office of Career Services will host its annual "Summer Job and Internship Fair" from noon to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the University Union. The fair offers student the opportunities to interview and network with more than 60 companies offering summer jobs and internships.
The potential employers represent such fields as parks and recreation, parks and resource management, counseling and human services, education, health care, humanities, social sciences and languages, law enforcement/ criminology and criminal justice, non-profit organizations and social service agencies.
"Going from college to the real world starts now; don't wait," said Michelle Stenander, clerk typist II in the Career Services Office.
"Job search preparation does not begin when you graduate, it begins now, and it begins today. It is no secret the economy and the job market are experiencing tough times. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports there are fewer jobs than ever available. Competition is increasing; potential employees are more qualified and have earned higher degrees than before, so students need to do all they can to be competitive. Job searches should start early, and the process takes longer than you expect. The sooner students begin, the more likely they are to succeed," she said.
